The brief was to capture the 2019 season in a five-minute vlog. infinity Channel Swimming North Channel 2019 in 5 minutes? Possible? Yes ! 5 mins are squeezed to bursting. From sun up to sun down infinity Channel Swimming was with you, every stroke.
2017 is where 2019 really begins as there is generally a two-year preparation for the North Channel. This year starting with HITtheWALL and finishing with an Irish Sea Crossing revealed an almighty feast of images, videos, highs, very highs, low pressures, (no pressure), wind, tide, and the memories and stories for a lifetime.
Starting with HITtheWALL in May with infinity Channel Swimming welcomed over 200 people from all over the globe to Carlingford. Many took the leap (some leaped as fast as they could out of there!). This cold water training with many physical and mental challenges proves every year to be very valuable on a successful channel crossing journey.
Having meeting her first in her hometown of San Francisco under the golden gate and testing her cross current stamina, Catherine Breed of USA opened what would be a very successful season with her gutsy swim. The USA brothers Zemaitis Joe and John gave everything with a few days in the difference between their swims, the warm waters of Arizona didn’t affect their cold water tolerance as stroke for stroke they pushed their way to Scotland. We have another swim for you!.
Turkish swimmer Kamil Resa Alsaran takes the title of the oldest Male NC’er. Ozzie John Haughton completed the NC & EC only weeks apart. Lynton and Pádraig like your style, John. Zach Margolis also from SERC, San Fransisco, and David Conradie Ireland showed their grit and determination to welcome the rocky cliffs of Scotland. Susan Knight of Maine USA really did HITtheWALL as she arrived in style at the lighthouse of Portpatrick harbor. Anna Strachan also from Oz had a fabulous swim finding Scotland amid the sea mist.
A first from France with Pierre Lord (France / Australia) landing on Scottish sands and hitching a ride back to base onboard infinity. Julieanne Goode took the fifth successful crossing this season for Australia with the stars of the night sky as she finished complimenting the stars on the Australia flag that billowed in the fresh southerly breeze throughout her swim. The stars will shine again at the Australian Channel swimmers awards in Brisbane where infinity Channel Swimming is the main event partner. As 2019 closes Attila Manyoki of Hungary’s Ocean Sevens dream is now a reality and we celebrate with him in his success, a story with many parts all accumulating in glory. Caroline Block on her fourth successful crossing takes claim to the Queen of the North Channel. David Lynch, Ranie Pierce, Tracy Clark, Michael Powell, Sabrina Wiedmer all showing stamina and grace to mother nature. The Dál Riata channel did not give passage this season but we will keep trying: savage performances from Amy Gubser and Lynton Mortensen duo and from Hannah Lietzau.
To the swim teams, this season Mad Turks, Ocean Breakers, Team Gavin Glynn, Global Tridents, and Team ABC – teamwork makes the dream work. Congratulations.
We congratulate and celebrate with swimmers who attempted or competed the North Channel with Brian Meharg Bangor Boats and Quinton Nelson Nelson Boats.
