Leaving Perano Head in the darkness with a 04:52hrs start and her blue adventure light matching the blue hue glow of the bioluminescence, Brazilian @ale_rossi_cima_swims Alessandra Rossi Cima commenced her Cook Strait adventure.
With a steadfast speed and unfaltering 60 – 62 SPM as daylight approached the sea mist and fog gave her little to sight for only SV Katabatic to guide her way. The Southern Hemispheres well known warm sunshine didn’t appear either but with happiness in her soul and a smile on her face she swam on. Approaching the North Island challenging back eddys, currents and fast running tidal flows brought more challenge and unable to see land made the crews feedback on distance to swim somewhat nonsensical.
Like a veil lifting, the mountains and shoreline came into view and to top it all a few lions mane jellyfish arrived at the party. Alessandra though tired after a trojan effort swam to the rocky beach near Oteranga Bay to successfully complete her Cook Strait swim.
