Last weekend I made my debut at Infinity’s Hit The Wall in Carlingford. This is a brutal long weekend training camp and involves getting cold quite a lot 🥶.
I have spent the last 10 years avoiding long periods in cold water as I don’t seem to fair that well. However, I have some swims coming up over the next couple of years that have motivated me to harden up and put on a few pounds to help along the way💪
The weekend was a mixed bag for me – it could have gone a lot better, but it could have been worse too.
One of the best parts was catching up with old friends and making new ones.
Friday night:
N/ice swim was a success ✅
Saturday:
Greers swim was a success. ✅
Battle of Carlingford Lough – I was totally psyched up for a tough swim, but the event was changed due to conditions and that totally messed with my motivation – I ended up just doing a little swim around the harbour. ❌
Sunday:
Champion of Champions,
Part 1 was a success ✅
But my fly was so slow I didn’t have time to warm up and refuel so skipped part 2 ❌
Part 3 was also a success ✅
Monday:
6hr fail – gutted ❌. I have been working on the debrief the last couple of days and coming up with an action plan. There are several reasons (apart from the fact it was flippin’ cold) that I wasn’t in an optimal place to complete that swim, some of which could present themselves on the day of a big swim, so it is now my job to fix all the controllables so I come back stronger next time. And I will be back! 😊
Thank you infinity Channel Swimming for all the hard work that went into providing an amazing training opportunity. 🙏👏
