A short recap from Hit The Wall. I had debated not going, after finding 1:45 the week before super challenging with the cold, and then receiving bad news on Wednesday. But the money was paid so off I went, with as much social anxiety as kit packed in the car. I took it easy over the weekend, opting for a single swim each day: the rerouted Battle of Carlingford, the 5km, and then my plan was to complete my 4hr qualification for @fastnetswim and get out on Monday. A short pep talk from @dee_from_the_sea put the 6hr target in my head, and with a few extra Percy Pigs in my kit, that was completed.
I’ve found some longer solo training swims really tough mentally, and have been in tears as my mind plays its usual games without the constant distractions I fill my brain with. I was very apprehensive about how I’d find 6hrs of ‘me time’ given the week I had, but I was so thrilled to stay really positive throughout. Never any thoughts of failure or ruminating. Saw some starfish, there were blue skies at some points, the crew were always incredibly friendly and positive at each feed. The joys of warm sugary drinks! I loved it, and I needed the reminder that I can do hard things.
Hugely inspired by all the amazing athletes and the overall experience was immensely positive. The @infinitychanne3 played a blinder, we are beyond lucky to have them on our shores.
My mouth is still in shite from the salt, but no shoulder trouble, and no major jellyfish sighting. Big win
