In a straight line it is 21.4 miles / 34.5 Kilometers at its shortest.

TRANS-MONTEREY BAY ROUTE

For the purposes of sanctioning and documenting swims across the Monterey Bay, the preferred route is harbor to harbor:

North End (Santa Cruz) - Harbor or Seabright Beaches (adjacent to SC Harbor)
South End (Monterey) -    San Carlos Beach (adjacent to the Monterey Harbor)

This course is 25 miles / 40.23 Kilometers
A "bay swim" must have clearly defined boundaries for starting and ending a swim. Swimming from Santa Cruz to Marina, for example, would NOT qualify as a Monterey Bay crossing.

SOUTH

FALSE BAY SOUTH AFRICA

There are two swim routes across the bay starting from North East to South West ending in the Cape Point region.

The direction from North East to South West is due to the prevailing Agulhas current which runs down the east coast of southern Africa.

The NEWS Honour Roll requires submission of all four swim ratification certificates from the respective associations / federations to infinity Channel Swimming

Individuals to coordinate each swim re: availability, logistics, pilot escort, costs, Marathon Swim Rules and qualifying standards.
